You can win an advanced copy of DEAD SET!

Richard Kadrey’s newest stand-alone novel, DEAD SET, comes out on Oct. 29. But TEN lucky winners of this week’s Friday giveaway will win an advanced reader’s copy of this fabulous dark fantasy!

After her father’s funeral, Zoe moved to the big city with her mother to start over. But change always brings trials, and life in the city is not so easy. Money is tight, and Zoe’s only escape, as has always been the case, is in her dreams–a world apart from her troubled real life where she can spend time with her closest companion: her lost brother, Valentine.

But something or someone has entered their dreamworld uninvited. And a chance encounter at a used record store, where the vinyl holds not music but lost souls, has opened up a portal to the world of the restless dead. It’s here that the shop’s strange proprietor offers Zoe the chance to commune with her dead father. The price? A lock of hair. Then a tooth. Then . . .

Also included in the prize are: a DEAD SET coaster that looks like a record from the shop Zoe visits, as well as a book plate signed by Richard!

Enter to win by 6 p.m. EST by commenting below, or RT us on Twitter - @HarperVoyagerUS! Good luck! (Open to U.S. only)

  1. Sounds good! Sorry I missed the cutoff but 6 p.m. Eastern is only 3 p.m. Pacific (though I’d have been late either way).

  2. WOW……now this is a wonderful giveaway. I read all of your Sandman Slim books and loved every single one. not only read them but I’ve listened to every book available on Audible, except this newest book. I absolutely love your work, you’re a very talented writer and it shows.

I would love to read this book and listen to it. I have preordered the audio book from Audible but I haven’t bought the book yet. I just found out 20 minutes ago about the giveaway so I’ve probably missed out. I hope not but I see you have an enormous amount of people and there’s 10 books. I kinda feel bad because someone has their work cut out for them.

Thanks for the giveaway and to everyone that helped you get things set up. I hope I didn’t miss out. Good luck to everyone. I can’t wait to read your new book. I’m going to add it to my tbr shelf on GoodReads.
    Thank you,
    Angela

  3. Richard Kadrey’s sandman slim series had me hooked from the first chapter. I am certainly looking forward to this new novel and wish him continued success.

  4. I LOVE Kadrey’s work!!! He’s one of my fave writers! This would be so awesome to win!!! Can’t wait to read this new masterpiece! :)

  5. Love Kadrey, he sits among the greats with Lovecraft, Barker and Blackwood and I will enjoy the read and reread of his books for many years to come.

  6. Just what I need for my upcoming trip. I’ll parade it around the airport and ask for it loudly in the bookshops.

  7. I’m sure Dead Set will be another favorite of mine like all your previous works. Even with the standard you set for yourself, my expectations are always met or exceeded. Would love to win this and get an early crack at it.

  8. Dressing up as Sandman Slim this year for Halloween. Very excited. Kadrey is an excellent writer but in a simple way. That’s not a backhanded compliment. He’s raw, gritty, funny, but very ‘real’ in his books. I love it.

  9. Mr Kadrey, is possibly, imo one of the most underrated, and genius authors of our time. His writing style is full of insight and wit, and often makes me think beyond what I consider the norm on various subjects. I have read everything hes published and I simply can’t wait to read this as well. Maybe I will get lucky and win :) The autograph is something I would cherish and put on my mantle. I have had the opportunity to speak with him a few times on Facebook and I find him incredibly intelligent and witty. Its my belief if you haven’t read Kadrey in any fashion (Sandman Slim, Metrophage, Butcher Bird and many others), please by all means. Do yourself a favor and do so now! Good luck to everyone (despite my desire to win lol)! The lucky winners I am certain will not by any means be dissatisfied.

  10. I would be thrilled to win a copy of Dead Set. I have heard a lot of Richard’s work, and started following him on Twitter to learn more, but I have yet to read any of his work. I would be thrilled to have the opportunity to do so.

Thank you for the opportunity and best wishes to you Richard. Wishing you much success with your new release!

    Sincerely,

    Shelbie Knight =)

  11. I love Kadrey’s Sandman Slim series, I have each book in hard cover first edition :) , and hope to get them all autographed one day! Very much looking forward to reading Deadset.

  12. I find Kadrey’s work to be among the most original examinations of the monsters within us that really struggle to improve.

  13. Got the free promotional ebook of Sandman Slim. Subsequently purchased the treebook, then every volume of Kadrey’s work available. Superb sense of rhythm and timing in his use of language. I covet this new work; big surprise.

  14. I have to have this! Kadrey succeeds in blending hard boiled pulp with contemporary fantasy in a way that many oothers try, but fall short of. Awesome stuff

  15. So hoping to.win this! Sandman Slim is my favorite series. So to hear there is a new obe coming out is great news, but to get to read a brand new adventure is even better!

  16. Love the Sandman Slim series. I’m looking forward to reading the next addition. Also can’t wait to hear more news about the movie adaptation!

  17. Whether or not i win this, i’m still going to pick up a copy at comic con, Richard Kadrey is literally my favorite author in history.

  18. Kadrey’s a favorite. The Sandman Slim books are destined to be classics of the genre. I send them to buddies stationed overseas, hoping they leave them in the library for others to enjoy and buy when they return. I cannot wait to read and share this new one

  19. I’ve already bought 7 copies*, including an extra one to lend out to a friend who will invariably forget the transaction ever happened, treat it in a way unfitting for a work of fiction, perhaps even re-lend it several times … before realizing, after trying unsuccessfully to reclaim it from a newly-ex-girlfriend, that it was never his to give. However, events have now progressed to a point so far beyond social etiquette that admitting the mistake would be more difficult than continuing to feign ignorance.

*I haven’t bought any yet; the statement above is a lie. I will definitely be picking up a copy, though, if this ploy for a free one doesn’t pan out. Thanks.

  20. I’ll be purchasing multiple copies anyway (my friends are as cool as I am), but being the first kid on the block to read it? Priceless status symbol! I won’t pay for drinks for a long time…

  21. Mr. Kadrey never disappoints! I have been a huge fan since the Sandman Slim novels began. I would love to win this and will be reading the book regardless!!! Keep cranking em out Mr. Kadrey and I will continue to read.

  22. I’d love to have this book. Enjoying the “Sandman Slim” series right now & I enjoy what’s in Richard Kadrey’s mind!

  23. Sounds like an interesting premise; haven’t read this author before but constantly looking for “new” favorites!

  24. Oh, this would be great to have. I’ve already got the book pre-ordered for the Kindle, but this would be a hard copy to treasure.

  25. I read Sandman Slim and loved his writing style and sassy dialog. I got my husband hooked on Sandman Slim as well and he’s read the whole series already! I’m sure we would both enjoy this stand alone novel. :)

  26. I would love a chance to win this- thank you! Richard Kadrey is the Guest of Honor at our convention, the first weekend in November, and this would make a brilliant donation to our charity auction- which is where I’ll put it if I win! (Then I’ll bid on it to get it back, of course!) =)
